Data DVD question
Posted by Kent Beeson on May 20, 2008 at 10:59 pmHello
I need to burn a FCP QT sequence to a Data DVD – never done this – what is a Data DVD, where best to buy one or are regular DVD-R’s OK for this? And lastly, how to burn a data DVD from FCP or Compressor? Or do I have to go through DVD SP 4?
Thanks much

May 20, 2008 at 11:17 pmA Data DVD just means it has files on it instead of being an authored DVD.
I use Toast for this as it’s as easy as drag and drop. But you can place a blank DVD-R into your machine and when the Mac asks you what to do with it, tell it to place it on the desktop. Then drag your files to it, then burn it.

May 20, 2008 at 11:23 pmThanks very much – so would about a one hour HDV tape of raw footage fit onto one 4.7GB DVD-R? I know my sequence and 2×1:00 long QT files will fit, but they want the raw footage on a separate data DVD too.

No clue really, haven’t done the math in awhile. Just do a Get Info on your Capture Scratch folder with the media in it. That will tell you how large your folder is.

The math is pretty easy… 1 hour of HDV is th esame as one hour of DV, and both are 13Gb her hour.
