    Hi all:

A coworker of mine had a big problem the other day, when he took some clips from a FCP timeline, did a “send to Shake” with them and, after working a bit, found that Shake had erased all the original clips from the hard drive for no reason. After searching a bit in this forum, I found a message from another user who had the same problem (from last August), but the thread didn’t offer any solutions nor clear causes, just a vague warning about how this was a bug with FCP that tended to happen too when doing a “send to” to other apps: Soundtrack, Livetype… Has anyone else heard of this? Does anyone know more details about how and why this happens?

Never heard of this myself, but I never use the Send to option anyway, I usually just manually bring the clips into Shake and haven’t had any issues with that. Don’t use Shake a lot, but it has not caused any headaches on our end like that.

Makes no sense for an application to simply delete the files off a drive. Not saying it didn’t happen, but it makes no sense.

I’m working on a film with over 130 omps, some 4 or 5 layers deep, that I sent to Shake directly from my FCP timeline. Never saw anything like this happen. Is it possible that your friend has footage on an external drive that was offline? Or a drive that crashed?

Nope. Internal drive, working perfectly. AFAIK, the only thing he did was to press a button with a red cross that unlinks the layer from the external footage (I don’t know Shake), but that shouldn’t delete the actual footage!

The only other person I know of that had this happen was this guy (message from this board, last August). I know it sounds bizarre…
