I have a super tall field of text, maybe 5000px tall, which needs to scroll through the main frame quickly. I also need to mask that image so the top and bottom is feathered to black.

The problem is applying a mask to a layer with motion causes the mask itself to be in motion. So i tried animating the mask to hold its spot, but for some reason, the top half of the text field gets chopped.

Is there a way to apply a mask to such a layer without having it be attached to the motion of the layer?

    Thanks in advance!

Put the layer that moves within another layer and apply the mask to that.]

You also might hit a problem the fact that you have an image larger than some graphics cards can handle.
