Daisy chains — fast and slow copying — Thunderbolt vs Firewire
Hello,
I have 3 firewire drives connected in daisy chain for editing/backup convenience and added a 4th to copy from.
Discovered that copying from the end of the daisy chain to an earlier drive was way slower than plugging in more directly.Do thunderbolt daisy chains have the same issue?

Yes, but the question us will you feel it? Thunderbolt has significantly more throughout than Firewire and depending on the order that you chain the drives, you may not feel any slow down at all.

In my experience, Thunderbolt daisy chains exhibit no loss of speed, no matter where the access point(s) are on the chain. I’m using the full complement of six chained hard drives, connected to my MacBook Pro and each of them behaves the same as the others. Add to this the inherent speed advantages you will discover just by switching from Firewire to Thunderbolt and you will be glad you made the switch.
