    Hello all,

Was wondering if anyone would know how to do the text effects fromn the Da Vinci Code trailer.

Where the image shatters into thousands of bits from the Mona Lisa image. I was thinking the shatter plugin but the particles seem very complex.

Also the code in the background which is dancing about then flys towards the camera certian letters how would this be done as I’m thinking Particle playground.

Then the main Da Vinci Code text and lens flare. It looks like 3d text but maybe just gradients and so on? The red lines look simple using an animated mask using red solids.

    Thanks,

    Leo 🙂

There’s a tutorial for particle illusion that is pretty similar to the effect where the mona lisa breaks up into pieces. Check it out…

    Hello Kevin,

I did not think Card dance, I think it’s a free plugin with AE 6.5 pro? If it is I will try a test later today to see how I get on.

Any ideas after the card effect with particles how they do the random textws in the background which they fly tpwards the screen certain words? I am thinking particle playground but not sure on steps to achieve this? maybe the Da Vinci Code text effects would be a good tutorial to work on for the site as can see alot of techniques used in it.

    Thanks,

    Leo 🙂

    Hello Kevin,

Thanks for that I’ll look into the plugin as be recommend by someone on a course I met that’s its a great plugin. Are the particle illusion particles the same as the ones built into Discreet Combustion as noticed After Effects has not pre-built particle library such as on the combsuion so this would be the equilvent?

    Thanks,

    Leo 🙂

“Are the particle illusion particles the same as the ones built into Discreet Combustion”

Combustion has the PI 2.0 render engine in it.

I’m away from my editing computer right now, but with card dance you can control how an image comes apart using a gradient layer and then adjust the x,y, and z movement individually. I think you can even adjust rotation of the pieces as well. The trailer was probably made with a true 3d application, but I think you could get really close with AE.

    Hello Kevin,

That’s interesting to know that PI is the one used in combustion as been looking for a good particle system for After effects can the PI in after effects be applied as easy as like in Combustion though?

I will have a go at Card dance over the weekend.

    Thanks for the pointers.
