I’m working in a 720 59.94 sequence, and my intent is to use the Kona 3 card to upconvert it to 1080 29.97. I’ve set the parameters in the Kona 3 Control Panel to go from 720 to 1080, and it plays through the deck fine and during the Edit to Tape function, it seems to play through fine. When I rewind and play it back, my deck reports a bad video and audio track and doesn’t play back at all. I’m using an AJHD3700B with the system setting set to 1080 59.94 (as it doesn’t seem to list a 29.97 playback frequency). The really weird thing is, I blacked the tape having the Kona 3 set to Default Video Output: Black within the Control Menu, and even the Black that I striped the tape with is reporting a bad video and audio track. When I set the System setting back to 23.976 PSF, it plays back the footage (albeit slowed down and choppy, since I recorded at 29.97) Has anybody experienced this? I guess I’m really asking Walter since you mentioned you’ve done this before. Thanks!

Problem solved, I had the D5 tape locked to 4 channels, but the deck was set to 8. Strange how it caused the video signals to be bad, when it would seem like it would just lay off without audio tracks 5 – 8, but it caused all sorts of havoc. It’s always the little things!
