we have fired up an old d2 deck. I see that is has a digial video out, although I have not determined if the deck actually has the card to run it the digital video out yet. I wasn’t certain if the digital video out works with sdi or not. So I simply tried it, and it didn’t.

So, its either that or the lack of a card in the deck or it won’t work with sdi.
If it is an issue of not working with sdi — what device to I need to convert from the d2’s digital out to sdi?

Most of the D2 decks have a PDI interface instead of SDI.
In other words, parallel digital, not serial digital.

FYI D2 is composite digital not component digital.

You could get an parallel to serial converter or just use the composite outputs from the vtr.

FYI D2 ain’t worth the hassle anymore, beside the major issues with head life on those machines the image quality is well behind what you could expect from component digital today.

I was just going thru my old manuals today and found my D2 stuff. It reminded me of the days of yesteryear when I had to deal with those machines.

    Hi all,

    Interesting topic.
I also recently got a Sony DVR/DCR18P Composite Digital D2 4:2:2 deck with low hours on the drum.
There is no SDI option installed as I checked the big maintainace manual.
But would a standard parrallel to serial converter do the job?
I mean would it also solve the component / composite problem?
    I do have a Miranda 4:2:2 Serial Decoder (SER-100D)
which should have SDI in and parallel out but so far I did not have much luck.
Ana chance that someone wants to sell / send me a copy of the operation / user manual
    of these DVR18

    Thanks in advance,

    Henk
