    Hi people,

I’m trying to create an effect in After Effects where a circular line of text comes towards the screen and animates from circular text into a straight line of text. What would be the best way of going about this????

it will be rather tricky, but you’ll create your text, then create a mask and animate the mask.

first, i’d create the straight line path using the pen tool. i’d probably create it with at least three points (left, right and center point) and add a key frame for that mask shape.

then move to another point in time and move the points and adjust the vertices using the convert vertex tool to make them round and to form a circle.

then assign the text to use the path in the text properties, and the text should move as the path animates to go from a linear alignment to circular.

you may need to adjust the vertices to be bezier when the line is straight to keep the animation smooth…

    Hi Kevin,

That worked a treat. Quite surprising how easy it can be if you know how.
    Thanks for the help.
