Sorry for a double-post (I’m putting this in the C4D forum as well).

I want to have a piece of plate glass and then see the number “30” get cut/etched out of it. Then, the rest of the glass will fall down and shatter leaving the 30 standing.

I’m wondering where would be the most efficient to start this in, AE or C4D. I thought I could perhaps use the write-on effect to ‘reveal’ the 30 and put the plate of glass, with the 30 already cut out, on a layer beneath and just animate and use the shatter effect for the falling plate.

Or, I could go in C4D and use the grow attribute to trace the outline of 30 and use the deformers in C4D for the rest.

I’m not really a pro in either, but I usually figure out what I need to do but I thought I’d ask the board to see if anyone had tips or better insights as to how to accomplish this.

    Thanks

one problem you may be faced with (at least using the shatter effect, which seems the most obvious option) is making you pieces of glass transparent. you can do a decent job of making them look reflective, with contrasty animated textures, and shiny, with material settings and lights, but i don’t think there is a setting for blend modes with in the plugin or any way to create transparency of the pieces.

i should probably check out that tutorial, maybe there is a way…

Thanks. The actual shatter in C4d isn’t working but everything else is ok. What I’ve done is to render a movie where the glass block falls backward and sets there.

Then, that is imported into AE and I want to apply the shatter effect but as to my other post above, I’m not getting a scattering of pieces horizontally; they always move outward despite setting gravity to 0.

I’m looking around, but the manual for shatter isn’t as helpful.
