Often I need to shorten a clip by cutting off the end. I cant seem to do this in motion.

So If i try to drag one end of the clip to shorten it, it moves the video around in my composition putting everything out of sync.

is there a way to do what i want? seems like there should be.

The shortening thing works sometimes, but other times just moves things out of sync. Weird.

Clips can be trimmed with the in/out commands- i and o on your keyboard.

That seemed to work but then now it doesnt.

For some reason, when i shorten the end or beginning of a clip, the whole thing jumps around. Not in the timeline, because it stays put there, what i mean is all the frames within the clip jump, as if i am doing a Timeslip, when in fact all i want to do is trim the beginning or end off. Whats going on?
