Cutting off the fat
Aloha,
Lately I’ve been seeing threads on the boards at vidvox and vjcentral about streamlining OS X to increase speed and performance (sounds like a Viagra ad), especially when working with video.
Does anyone have any opinions, insights or suggestions on this topic? For example, the pros using FCP on the new G5s . . . are they using them “as is”, right out of the box? Or are they making alterations to OS X, stripping it down, cutting off the fat (Dashboard and other apps that a video editor wouldn’t use on his/her computer).

Video editing and VJ-ing are completely different applications of similar technologies. It’s easy to assemble different partitions on a drive that launch streamlined systems designed to do different things.
I’d be very curious to know what VJs are eliminating but they’re the people to ask. If you find out, please post back.
