I was following that earlier HDCam post by KingCut with interest and it sparked this question:

I’m currently cutting in a 23.98 8-Bit HD timeline and will be renting a Sony HDW/M-2000 HDCam deck to ouptut at 1080i. Getting picture to the deck is no problem, as I just choose AJA Kona 1080i 29.97 8-bit from the View menu (worked with a Panasonic 1200 deck the other day, no problem). What was a problem, though, was controlling the 1200 with RS-422. When trying to do an “edit to tape” both assemble and insert editing was “greyed out”. I tried every possible choice, RS-422 @ 29.97, 23.98, 59.97, etc., but doing a machine-controlled edit was not an option. By 3am I gave up and just did a crash edit and took it to Lightning Dubs to have them do the frame-accurate edit.

Last year, I sucessfully (frame accurately, punched in on HR 01) did the exact same output I’m intending to do this year…but I can’t remember what voodoo I did!

Has anyone out there done anything similiar?

    Aloha,

    Pierson

Nope, can’t be done. Even AJA can’t quite figure out how to do it. So, we’re taking the 23.98 master to a dub house to get it transferred to 29.97.
