Looking for a way to quickly cut undesirable portions of MOV files. I believe what I want is referred to as smart rendering.

When I start a new project and reviewing the footage for the first time, I’d like to trim off the fat, so to speak, (video of my feet, adjusting exposure, etc) of the clips.

This would make it easier during editing and also reduce hard drive storage.

Ideally, the new clips would have no loss in quality. Can Vegas Pro 11 do this or do I need quicktime pro or some other software?

No, Vegas Pro cannot do this and I don’t know of any software that can without re-rendering and loosing some quality. You might want to purchase CineForm which is an excellent intermediary codec that you can render your MOV files to. There will be very little loss of quality using CineForm.

Thanks for replying. I wouldn’t have thought it would be such a technical challenge for engineers to accomplish. I don’t need precise cutting down to the individual frame level.

I agree, I certainly don’t understand why they can’t just cut at an I-Frame boundary and copy the stream but no one seems to have implemented this.
