    Hi all,

Is there any way to cut/paste multiple expressions (ie. position, scale etc) to multiple layers at the same time OR at least cut/paste individual expressions to multiple layers. I’d like to be able to do this without having to open each layer individually.

    Cheers,

    Andy

No, not really. You can paste the same expression to multiple parameters by selecting them before pasting, but not different expressions at the same time – AE simply doesn’t know how to associate parameters. So basically you still have to open all your layers and do it the slow and tedious way. You should also consider to make use of the “index” feature as often as you can. Once your expression works, all you need to do is clone it a bunch of times and replace the layers if necessary. Perhaps in 7 they will at least have something like named expressions as in 3D programs that would minimise the problems *crossedfingers*.

    Hi Mylenium,

Thanks for your reply… I’m actually using the index expression on all the layers to offset parameters from the layer above..

    Thx,

    Andy

p.s: Great AE tutorials on your site by the way. They’ve helped me alot to understand expressions.

It’s easy to paste single or multiple expressions from one layer to multiple layers if you have AE 6.5.

Select the Parameter(s) that the source expression occurs on (such as Position) in the left column of the timeline window. Choose Edit/Copy Expression Only.

Select the target layers and choose Paste.

That’s ok for basic parameters such as position, rotation etc. but does not reliably work with text animators or multiple instances of effects that have been renamed (as I do quite regularly) so it’s often not really an option. The entire expression system in AE is really awkward to use sometimes, though very powerful.
