Hi – hope someone can help. I’ve got a relatively slow computer with which I want to cut a project I shot on HDV. Is there a way I can use my camera’s downconverted DV footage in Sony Vegas 8 to edit with, then once the cut is locked replace the DV media with the original higher res footage. To complicate matters, I shot the video on a Canon XH-A1 using 24F, which Vegas reads as 23.98 I think. But when I use the Canon to downconvert Vegas 8 seems to read the footage at 29.9. I need this to be frame accurate. The project is a music video which will have lots of cuts and a music track that it must be synced to. Anyone know if this can be done? Thanks…

Have you tried to edit the HDV on your computer yet? Vegas handles it very well these days, even on Vegas 8. But yes you can downconvert, edit, then replace the footage with the HDV file. You can change the frame rate in your project settings. Hope this helps, Danny Hays
