Cut and paste a section of a clip?
Hello!
I truly apologize if this has been covered before, but I have looked through archives and could not find it.
Is there a way to select just a piece of a clip with in and out, cut it (or copy it) from the sequence and then paste it somewhere else in the sequence?
Essentially, I am looking for the equivalent of FCP cmd+x then cmd+v or AVID’s opt+cntrl+X, which will cut the selection and immediately place it in the clipboard for editing into the sequence somewhere else.
Currently, if I try to do the FCP keyframes, I get a completely different piece of video than I wanted.
A workaround has been to cmd+X and then cmd+Z – that’s how I get the video I want in the clipboard – and then go to the new edit point and cmd+V. The other alternative would be to use the blade to create a new clip, but that also is about 4 keystrokes.
I am such a newbie at this, I apologize. Trying to wrap my old brain around the new application.

Sorry, I am a dummy. I searched around even more and found this asked about. It seems the workaround is the only way to do it. Bummer…

Actually, what you want is the extract function. Mark in and out and then click the Extract button. This removes in to out and places the remainder on the clipboard.
