Dazzer,

Compressor is a rather foreign interface that takes a while to get used to. Once you get it, it easy. I recommend that you do the tutorial to get your head around it. Once you do you’ll find Compressor to be a very powerful application.

it’s a bit fiddly you’re right, but I’ve got it working now.

To use a droplet you seem to have to export a mov from Final Cut and then drop that in. That’s two stages. The sequence be dropped straight in from Final Cut?

Also can Flash encoding be done in Compressor if the codecs are installed? Or would I need Sorensen Squeeze for that?

Yes, to use droplets you do need to export first. However, you can create custom presets that can be used for exporting right from the FCP timeline.

And, the only Flash plugin I know of require you to have the full Abobe Flash app installed on your computer. Compressor does not yet do Flash encoding out of the box. So, if you have Sorenson Squeeze you’re in luck.

Dazzer,

If you choose one of Apple’s presets you can modify the settings and save. There is a button near the bottom of the Inspector panel that says “save,” thats what its for. Its pretty clearly layed out starting on page 74 in the Compressor manual.
