  • Custom Motion plugins in top level directory arent’showing up.

I’ve created several generators and effects that the editors use. In order for the custom plugins to work when moving projects between editors via XML, I make sure that the plugins are not in the user directory where Motion templates reside. Instead I put them in a top level directory:

    Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro/ Templates

For one computer FCP X will not recognize and load the plugins put here. Launching Motion usually generates the needed “Generators”, “Effects”, “Transitions”, “Titles”. and “Compositions” folders, but it doesn’t so I had to manually create them.

    Any ideas folks?

Have you added the .localized extension?

I hadn’t tried that. Is that necessary. I did use X-FX handler and noticed that “.localised” was in the name but didn’t think that I actually had to add that to the folder names. I just thought they were hidden parts of the folder names.

Ironically it just started working once I copied all of the pertinent folders over to the top directory. Before there were only “Generators” and “Effects”. For some reason, launching Motion never created the folders so I just copied them from my computer and it worked.

I can’t say for sure why, but it did.

It is up to date. After copying my folders over though to the top level of the other computer, now the user’s plugins in the motion templates directory aren’t being recognized. The top level one are though which was the goal.

If you copy that folder from another machine where it works the extensions are there but they are not visible.
For your purpose they are needed.
