Is it possible to have a modeled object other than a ball to behave under metaball effect? If not, is there another way of animating an identical object separating from its self in similar fashion to metaballs?

The help menu has a very clear review of the metaball object.
Yes you can use other objects in the meta but I have not had consistant results when doing so… perhaps some else can help you here.
To be able to “animate away from itself” What kind of shape, a fluid motion ???

Yes, in fluid motion. It’s a fairly basic shape, looks like an elongated cell, but it has to keep its shape after it goes through the morph, I guess I could also morph? Since it has the same # of points? Although I’m not sure how to go about doing that…

what kinda shape are you looking for? I think there are a few ways you could approach it but knowing the shape would certainly help…if it not too late.
