    Hi All…

    Just digging into C4d, so sorry for the newbie questions…

    I know you can Extrude text with extrude nurbs and there are some caps and fillet options there.

    That’s great.

    But the basic extrusion is just a straight extrusion.

    I’ve been experimenting with Sweep nurbs to create a custom bevel profile across several scaled versions of the text object.

    But to do it that way is seems you’d have to split out each character and deal with it separately.

    Is there an easier way that’s just not obvious to a newbie like me?

    I don’t think I understand, what does “a custom bevel profile across several scaled versions of the text object” mean? Do you have any examples or can you post what you’ve been working on?

    Hey Brian,

    Take the letter O

    I copy and paste to I have a total of 5 of them.

    Then I offset them in Z from the original

    1 and 4 stay the same

    then I scale 2 and 4 up a bit

    and 3 up a bit more

    then I loft across all of them.

    This gives me an extruded O that with a smooth bulging bevel.

    (like a cheerio, but flat on front and back)

    But now If i take that concept and try it across a whole word, I have to control every character and still really don’t get the look I like.

    Does that makes sense?

    There is a way to do it if you have MoGraph. You would extrude a text spline with zero depth, which just gives you a single n-gon for each letter. Then make the extrude editable to form a polygon object. Then create a MoGraph extrude object and make it the child of the polygon object. Increase the number of steps for the extrue object to some largins numer (like 30 – 100). Then apply a step effector to the extrude object and adjust the effector’s spline (effector tab) to taste.

    If you wanted to get fancy and still have the ability to use other effectors on the letters, you could put the polygon object in a fracture object, set the fracture to explode segments (object tab) and drop the fracture and extrude objects in a null. Then the extrude will work as above, but you’ll have the ability to apply other effectors to the fracture object to move/scale/rotate the letters.
