  • Curves in RMD for Red files – can’t undo

While doing some tests with the latest version of RedcineX, I set up some shots to use RedlogFilm as the gamma curve. and then applied a curve correction using the curve tool in RedcineX with the program set to save RMD files. When I brought these shots into Resolve with the Red settings set to use camera metadata, it “correctly” brought in the shot with the correction from RedcineX, so I assume the default behavior is to use the RMD if there is one. Unfortunately, Red’s curve control is not exposed in Resolve, so if a curve correction is used, there is no way to “undo” it that I can see. Using the RMD becomes an “all or nothing” proposition.

It seems that if RMD import is going to be the default when clip metadata is used, either all of Red’s controls need to be exposed, or at the very least, the ability to not use the curve control parameters needs to be available. This is rather important going forward because DIT’s are becoming a bit more educated as to the use of the RedlogFilm curve, and will likely tend to use the RedcineX curve control in association with that.
