March 23, 2013 at 6:49 amYep. I ran in to this on a recent project too. The minute you touch a curve the data just clips… At least on the resolve scope. I didn’t see visual clipping like I would have expected though. On the flip side I also noticed that I could visually clip data while the scope looked fine! It’s quite possible that the mapping of linear light values is off vs the regular davinci color science on the software scopes. I was working on 4K EXRs on a linux system.

March 23, 2013 at 6:57 amI’m on external scopes and seeing it there, but I will compare to internal and visual.

March 23, 2013 at 7:13 am…Interesting. It’s definitely a problem… If you’re seeing the issues on an external scope the data is getting clipped for sure. I’m sure a correction applied to a grey scale gradient could prove it. Have you converted your data to linear light EXRs, or are you working off of camera raw data? (Not that it should matter, just curious)

Off topic. But, do you find it hard to work with such different cameras on a single project as far as matching color and overall feel?

March 23, 2013 at 2:24 pmI’m having the same issue here, both visual and on the software scopes. Creating a second node for curves seems to resolve the issue, however I am also experiencing horrendous banding and artifacts in the shadows when I am using ACES colour science.
I’m using Red Epic with the red IDT and Rec.709 ODT (I have tried the others as well).

March 25, 2013 at 5:42 pmDouble checked with some R3d’S in Rec709 and can confirm that there is visual clipping. Need to check vs F65 EXRs again…

March 26, 2013 at 7:56 amScratch that, the double node thing isn’t working. Also, I am able to change colour temperature for CinemaDNG but not R3D while using ACES. Also, all my clips go really really dark in the media and conform views in Resolve when using ACES. Makes A/Bing kind of difficult, amongst other things.
