Curiosity – Best conversion from h264 to prores – Compressor vs Mpegstreamclip
Hi everybody,
sorry for my english, I’m writing from Italy.
I have a curiosity about something I can’t explain…
I converted some h264 videos in Prores LT with Compressor, but when I compared it whith the original using quicktime it was really different from the master (overall on the reds, more cold and desaturated). So I tried the same with Mpegstreamclip and comparing the three the result was really better, more similar to the first video. But for me it was really strange and I wanted to try also in Final Cut and it was the contrary: the one with Compressor was similar for colors, gamma and contrast to the original and the one with Mpegstreamclip was not bad but with more contrast, overall on the whites, almost brighter.
Finally I exported the two different versions from the timeline of FC and opening them with Quicktime I could see the same result of the timeline: Compressor better than Mpegstreamclip.
Now…
Why does it happen?
Am I wrong saying that Compressor is better than Mpegstreamclip (talking about quality, not speed)? Thanks for everybody!
