Decided that I’m going to add a CUDA card to my MacPro 4.1. Trying to decide between a Quadro 4000 or the GTX 570 from Macvidcards. With the $60 rebate and free shipping from B&H there is only a $134 difference between the two cards.

From what I’ve read the GTX 570 has more power. But I know I have to tweak some files to make Premiere work with it. I’ve also read that some people are having issues with dual monitor support with this card.

Any suggestions and or advice welcome. Thanks!

The quadro 4000 is single slot and will definitely work well. (I have two)

I would look to see how many cuda cores you get with each card.

I went from the GTX 285 to the Quadro 4000 –and yeah the 285 has for cuda cores as I believe the 570 does as well over the 4000 —

BUT (now i don’t know a ton about video cards) but its basically the design and architecture of the 4000 that the programs are written to work with those types of cards.

that said the 570 will work and I had no problem with my 285 –I just elected to stay with cards that are native supported by the OS.

I did notice difference with cs6 and AE and Premiere with the 4000 -and Chris is right –its a single card

    more room for more goodies.

Wanted to report back with my decision and results. I decided on the GTX 570 from Macvidcards. Purchasing from Macvidcards was great. Fast shipping and detailed instructions for installation. The card itself works as advertised. It shows the Mac boot screen and has been stable and trouble free running the latest Quadro drivers.

Premiere is like a new application with CUDA. It’s fast and responsive. I work mostly with native AVCHD material and it seems to shuttle better. This may be my imagination because I’ve read that CUDA does nothing for this but it definitely feels like an improvement. Still not as smooth as shuttling a ProRes source but usable.

CUDA really starts to shine in the timeline when you add filters. No red all yellow. You’ve got to work hard to break the realtime playback. And the biggest improvement and the best reason to add a CUDA card in my opinion is the drastic improvement in export times. Encoding to MPEG4/h264 flies. Very happy with the decision to add the GTX 570 to my 2009 Octo-Core Mac.
