I am contemplating upgrading my Produciton Premuium suite from CS5.5 to CS6. But I work in conjunction with several other people who are using CS5.5. I am the only one using Premiere Pro and After Effects, but I am often swapping Illustrator and Photoshop files with the other guys. Will we encounter problems if I upgrade my suite to CS6 and they stay at 5.5? What has everyone’s experience been with CS6’s workability alongside 5.5?

    Thank you in advance.

having both installed is supported and should work just fine.

though you could open 5.5 projects in 4, you can’t open 6
projects in previous versions, though I suspect an .xml
export might work for backwards compatibility.

Does that apply to Premiere Pro (.prproj) and After Effects (.aep) only or does that apply to AI, PSD, EPS, INDD, and other files?

    Thanks

No problems on my system. I have 3 systems running 5.5 and 6 side-by-side.

Your problem will be backwards compatibility. CS5.5 can’t open CS6 files – Photoshop, AE, PPro, etc. You can always go from 5.5 to 6, but not the other way. If you collaborate a lot with them then I would hold off on the upgrade until everyone is on board.

I’ve never had problems opening .ai .psd .eps files from any version
    of photoshop, illustrator etc..

a .psd made in cs 6 can be opened in photoshop 4. (version 4 not cs 4)

Hey everyone, I just like you had the same issue of saving legacy Project files to work with previous versions of PR, and found out through testing that:

PREMIERE PRO 6 PROJECTS cannot open in PREMIERE 5.5 but they open in PREMIERE 5.

    Go figure!
