  • CS6 PP Keyboard Shortcuts Not Working after Reinstall

Posted by Jason Jones on April 27, 2013 at 7:30 pm

After a system crash, I’ve just reinstalled Premiere Pro, to find that many but not all of my keyboard shortcuts are not working: Shift-Z, Command + and -, etc.

Any ideas why this might be true?

    Thanks!

If you saved them you should be able to access and restore them in the keyboard shortcuts dialog area. There is a drop down menu to choose them. Im not in front of PrP at the moment.

These aren’t special or personal or custom keyboard shortcuts. These are perhaps the most common shortcuts in the default set, like Zoom Timeline to Fit (Shift-Z). So I shouldn’t have needed to save them – they should load with the install.

I see. I was thrown off when you stated ” many but not all of my keyboard shortcuts ”

In that case try deleting Prefs by depressing Option and Shift when booting up PrP.

Amazing – nope! I still have some shortcuts – like C for Razor, or any of my edit tools (B, N, etc.), but no Shift-Z or Command-+ …

    Bizarre.

Also not in front of my machine but what are you expecting Shift+Z to do in the default keyboard settings?

If the answer is Zoom then maybe you use the Final Cut keyboard in keyboard settings which may need to be selected again.

If the answer is something else then I’m stumped as well.

Wow. So yes, it IS Zoom, and it IS from the FCP7 set. But what’s truly bizarre is that I don’t remember ever customizing the PPr shortcuts to include just these from FCP7, AND I am used to using the rest of the default PPr shortcuts!

So I must have kept the default CS6 set, but entered, perhaps in my sleep or under in the influence of Ambien, these two ” legacy” shortcuts.

Weird, indeed. Well, thanks, in any case!

If you are using the default CS6 keyboard commands “Shift+Z” is not among the defaults (unless you switch to FCP7 layout). If keeping the standard CS6 shortcuts you will have to add it as a customized shortcut. You likely did that at some point in the past…

Just re-enter it and you’ll be good to go.

Yeah, Ryan, I did that. You’re right – I must have done the custom shortcuts as soon as I made the switch from FCP7, and just forgot about it.

    Thanks!
