    – CS6 on Win7 64 bit
    – Win7, Adobe CS6, and Nvidia are all fully updated.

Premiere Pro CS6 has started something strange. I created a new project and added an mp3. It plays fine, but the playhead stutters about every ~.75 second. So it has a jerky movement across the timeline.

If I add a simple video clip, the video stutters at the same tempo (as the playhead). Strangely, the audio portion of the video plays smoothly.

If I reboot my computer, it often solves the problem. I have taken screenshots of my Processes to see what might have changed between when it stutters or doesn’t stutter (and subsequently exited processes that were different), but that didn’t seem to help.

These are all Premiere settings that I have used plenty in the past. These are using clips that I have used in previous videos. Nothing large or taxing on the system. When it is stuttering, I can even open previous projects that I know worked perfectly and it now stutters in the same tempo (with video stuttering, playhead stuttering, but no audio stutter).

I tried setting up the scratch disk to a different disk but that doesn’t alleviate the issue.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Hi Eric,

I’m having the same problem and can not figure this out. I’m using a Mac with plenty of power etc and get the stuttering just as you mentioned. Sometimes it goes away upon a restart but seems to always show back up.

Hopefully we can get an answer from someone. I’m using Premiere CC.

Last night it was happening and I rebooted, but it didn’t help (which it does sometimes). So I tried rebooting into Safe Mode (with networking). It worked in safe mode without the stuttering. So I rebooted again into regular Win7 and it worked for the rest of the night flawlessly. But, I don’t think that solved anything.

When it was stuttering, I also tested using different content, to rule out the system being ‘overworked’.. meaning I tried multiple project resolutions and formats, including super simple ones. I tried making a project with only one object, a solid color matte moving slowly across screen. It still stuttered at the ~.5 second tempo. I tried taking footage and interpreting it at a wide range of playback speeds.. they would all skip at the same ~.5 second tempo.

I reverted my Nvidia driver back to 301.xxx and that didn’t seem to fix it, as I tried rebooting multiple times after reverting, to no avail.

The only thing of note that I can think of that I have added recently is a Wacom Intuos Pro tablet. I ‘exited’ all of the processes/services (I think) that involve the Wacom and unhooked it, but didn’t see any obvious relation.

Although our solution was different, reverting to an older driver for NVidia did solve our playback stuttering in Premiere CS6. This is with a PC, Win7, NVidia Quadro 4000. Therefore I would caution anyone about updating NVidia drivers when using Adobe Premiere CS6.
