CS6 Performance Impressive!
Posted by Brian Charles on June 6, 2012 at 12:05 amI’ve just rendered a file in CS6, wow. CS5.5 rendered in 4 hrs 20 min, CS 6 rendered in less than half the time. Holy Shxt!
I suspect Steve Forde (formerly GridIron Software) had something to do with this. As a former Nucleo Pro user I’m really impressed with the memory management and performance of CS6.

June 6, 2012 at 2:12 amIt is easily the best software upgrade I’ve ever made.

June 6, 2012 at 9:44 amHere’s some good info on render times with various hardware-supported ray-tracing with CS6 –

However, there are other considerations as to the type of comp/layer setup. But the results do give a good indication as to which cards to avoid and which ones give the most bang for the buck!

June 6, 2012 at 1:42 pmGood to hear Brian,
Makes my upgrade decision earlier. As far as multiprocessing, does AE 6 do all of the guesswork for you in regards to preferences?
I just finished a huge project with AE5 that was helped tremendously by multiprocessing, but at times I felt I was spending more time figuring out the optimal preference settings rather than creating.
Thanks,

I had mine set to use 7 processors allocating 3GB to each.
I looked at Activity Monitor during the render, RAM was freed quickly and reallocated. Cache was set to 40 GB on a RAID 0 (2 x 1TB 7200 rpm drives).
