CS6: Can I search the project panel for files?
I can see a search box in the projects panel but it’s always greyed out and doesn’t do anything. Is there a way I can quickly search for files in large projects? It would be a timesaver.

I can search by entering a term in the search box just fine. Does anyone else have this problem?

That’s odd. My search field is not disabled in icon view. Please file a bug report: https://www.adobe.com/go/wish
Try repairing permissions, trashing preferences, and then restarting the computer. Launch Premiere Pro once more. See if you can search after doing that. If that does not work, I recommend a reinstallation of the program.
