cs5 hdsdi
Posted by Dennis Rafn on June 2, 2010 at 10:41 amDoes any have a working solution ? What I understand so far is that both Blackmagic and AJA soffers from poor performance – when compered with straight Premiere Mercury project.
What about Nvidia 4800 with SDI ? Bluefish ? External HDMI/SDI converters ?

June 2, 2010 at 2:54 pmHi Dennis,
I’m guessing you are talking about monitoring playback. The performance is no worse than it was before the introduction of MPE, at least on the AJA series.
I’m not sure if anything new was introduced hardware wise that specifically targets CS5, I’m guessing it will take a while.

June 3, 2010 at 5:19 pmYa, thats the problem. Now i have seen what MPE does for the workflow, i dont really want to go back. So what is a working solution ? We have AJA here and we can do only simple stuff when AJA enabled. So my guess would be Nvidia 4800 with SDI out ?? Or simply put external HDMI converters for SDI monitoring ?

June 3, 2010 at 7:46 pmThe only problem with going through converters is that the output gets filtered / scaled on the way out, so you are not really getting a true preview. That is more important for some that others, but besides that and no audio/timecode out, that’s the only working solution I can think of until AJA / others catch up.

June 3, 2010 at 9:25 pmI have Blackmagic HD Extreme 2 and nvidia gtx285 and 5Dmk2 (1080/25p) and blackmagic uncompressed 1080 avi sequences handled several gpu accelerated effects per clip last time I tried.
I usually don’t need more than 1-2 layers and at least 2 layers of dslr footage (both layers with 2-3 effects) played flawlessly.
I think DVCPROHD 1080/25 was behaving nicely too.
Only drawback is that there are no blackmagic RED presets so that may be a problem.
