I am building a new machine and I was wondering what aspect should I concentrate on to get better AVCHD native editing performance? GPU? or just processor? or memory?

    Thanks

I think right now an i7 would be a good choice, depending on your budget of course, but processors are the most important part of rendering speeds and real time playback. RAM wise, I would count on 6-8 Gigs. And of course a separate drive or RAID for media.

I was told a while back that GPU had an impact on AVCHD render times, I haven’t seen a difference since upgrading to an ATI HD 4870.

Thanks for the reply, I found this product https://www.divideframe.com/ I noticed it doesnt support CS4 I was wondering if maybe that technology may be built into CS 4.1. I dont mind going out and spending $300 to $400 for a new video card if it helps my AVCHD editng. I dont care that much about encoding yet I just want to be able to edit smoothly with long projects.
