December 6, 2008 at 11:04 pmI concur. Macromedia’s corporate culture infected Adobe. Perhaps that’s the bug that needs fixing.
Count me among the ex-Adobe fanboys. After more than 20 years supporting their products, I find myself looking for alternatives. Though as noted elsewhere on this forum an hour working in Motion makes you appreciate After Effects.

Yes, I bought my first Adobe product sometime back in the mid-80s and I was always impressed by the company. Even when they quit being a Mac-only company and moved to the PC, they were so good that they largely destroyed Corel, a company that had a huge head-start and a massive installed base. Because of Adobe’s products and level of great customer service, Corel barely survived.
Now, after the Macromedia take-over of Adobe, the company has lost nearly all the qualities that made Adobe such a remarkable company. They regularly anger even their largest customers and ignore the complaints of the smaller ones.
The only two good things that Macromedia brought to Adobe were the Adobe Labs project and Flash. The rest? I could easily do without it — and would prefer to.
Hey Apple, please finish Phenomenon and build us a photo paint program, okay? If you do, I am done and you get my money.

December 7, 2008 at 10:47 pmHow about the “bug” (or “feature” as Adobe would like to think of it) of the search filter in CS4? Do a search – it shows only what you searched for, meaning you cannot move a searched-for item to another folder in the project hierarchy. Then you close the search – and ALL folders are collapsed and closed, regardless of your previous project state. So, open all the folder again to find you folder of comps for the current scene/shot, keep working. repeat every time you do a search. What UI genius thought of that? there was nothing wrong with the search in CS3. It found what I wanted every time, and left all the other folders open and visible, allowing me to see what else was in that folder or move the item to another folder if i wanted to.
If have posted a caveat to the online help to this effect. -

December 8, 2008 at 9:17 amThat search problem sounds like a bit of a nightmare…alot of my projects have dozens & dozens of folders and the only way to keep things manageable sometimes is to have some collapsed and some open..if doing a search messes all that up I could see it getting VERY annoying.
I love After Effects and have done for quite a while, but if Adobe are not even doing point releases to fix bugs anymore then that spells ZERO product support to me and therefore NOT a professional app.
Are Apple still working on Phenomenon then?

December 8, 2008 at 11:32 pmI was also surprised that I didn’t get any comments on my question about lights, which seems to be ANOTHER bug in CS4. Unless it’s just my install?
I can’t seem to move lights using keyboard shortcuts. I have to grab the light (tricky to do when they are essentially points) and drag it with the mouse, my arrow keys or shift+arrows don’t affect position at all! This is really bugging me as I use lights a lot and like to shift them with shorcuts using different camera views (top, side, front) to get them where I need them.
But as I said, I am not sure if this is a further bug or if something screwy has happened with my install (Intel Mac, 8 core, 4gb ram).
