All of a sudden “file / export” does not result in Adobe Media Encoder opening. Encoder is certainly there, but there is no repose at all when called upon to do its task. I would say something is “broken” in PremierePro that should be bringing up the encoder function. Any clues?

First thing I’d suggest checking is whether or not the AME process is running: I’ve had many times where I thought AME wasn’t opening, but for one reason or another the process was still active (in my case, probably from an earlier crash) which prevented the app proper from opening. Let me know what’s the case in that regard.

Indeed, AME was not running. I could bring it up from the menue, but it would not come to life when requested via PremierePro. Discovered the computer was running very hot so I set the fans to run on high all the time rather than on the thermostate. It seems to have fixed that problem. This was just one of several issues I’ve been dealing with. Fixing the heat problem seems to have brought back a lot of stability to the entire system. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
