    Hello,
I’m having some problems with Media Encoder. Everything was fine up until a couple days ago. Whenever I export a sequence from Premiere, it takes a lot of time before Media Encoder actually starts encoding. When I click “start queue” the dialog switches to “encoding” but the elapsed time remains at 00:00:00. I have to wait like 3-4 minutes for it to finally start (for a 2 minute clip).

I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled CS4 two or three times, deleting all folders and using the cleanscript each time. But the problem’s still there. I’m now running ME v.4.2.0.006. I’m convinced the trouble wasn’t caused by any installation or update.

If you know what can be done or if it’s a known issue, I’ll appreciate your help. THanks

Do you have a lot of pre-comps in the time line and do you have everything on a separate hard drive aside from the one Premier and Encoder are installed on?

Also when was the last time you defraged your hard drives?

A lot of times this can have an effect on Encoder because it likes to have all it’s ducks in a row before it gets to work. The more work that is required in the comp and the more difficult it is to access the hard drive, the longer it takes to start the process.

Remember, Premier doesn’t save the actual assets in the Premier file, it references them to the file. Once you start rendering it is when it pulls all the resources to build your project frame by frame. When it’s hard to find all the parts it will take longer.

I hope this helps, if not let’s figure something else out.

Hey, thanks for your reply. I’m not sure I understand what a precomp is but what I can tell you is I’m using only one hard drive for Premiere, which I defragged last week. What I don’t understand is it was working fine just a couple days ago, it used to take five seconds to do what now takes 3 minutes at least

running only one hard drive is usually not a recommended idea. Scratch disks and raw footage should be on a separate drive from the applications and the project files.

As far as AME taking a while to load assets and actually start exporting your file…..mine does that too…and I am on a decently fast machine with 3 drives.

Are you on a Mac or a PC? What operating system are you using? What export settings are you using in AME? What kind of source footage are you working with?

Well, I’ve been using only one drive for the last two years and never had a problem so I really doubt this is the cause.
I’m running Windows 7 x86, Intel Core2 Quad, and here in this case the file I’m dealing with is just a mere 60 minute long .wav sound file which, now I’ve edited it, I’d like to export as uncompressed 16b .wav again.
Let me again stress the fact that using this configuration I never had a problem before. Also, when it takes too much time and I try to stop the process (by clicking “stop queue”, then I’m asked whether I’d like to finish the file and I click “no”) it also takes a few minutes for AME to respond, in the meantime it just freezes.
