I recently purchased CS4 after using Premier Pro for a while now. I had some questions about exporting. In Pro I just went into File/export/dvd and set my settings there. Now I see it’s a little different. It takes you into Media encoder and you make your settings there. Is that for more options? Also, I was wondering the best setting for the best results for DV footage. I thought it would be MPEG dvd? I realize that Encore is included with Premier now and I’m sure the answer is to do everything in there. I’m just not to familiar with Encore yet but I suppose it’s time to learn.

    Appreciate any comments or suggestions.

    Thanks, Chris- MN

If you export with Media Encoder don’t mux the result use elemental streams, I perfer to encode in Encore and use AC3 audio.

Thanks for the reply. I’m not familiar with AC3. Do you render out the audio seperately and bring into Encore? Also, what do you think will give the best results for DV footage for Encoding to DVD?

    Hi

I’m using cs4 on a pc. file – export – media allows you to export in a format of your choice. under export settings you can choose differen formats, output name allows you to specify file name, location, and depending on format you choose there are a number of tabs underneath which allow you to change video, audio etc settings. Media encoder allows you to queue files up and render them in batches (good for leaving on overnight)

microsoft avi has pal dv preset, but I’m no expert on the best formats to use for dvd.

If you get any decent results let me know your settings because I’m struggling with image quality myself at the minute!

[Chris Burns] “I’m not familiar with AC3”
AC3 is Dolby audio, it requires less space than PCM or Mpeg, I don’t know your computer specs, but usually what I do with DV is to use the dynamic link to bring the timeline with chapter markers into Encore, I use two computer monitors and setup Ppro on one and Encore on the other.
