recently my cs3 has started rendering (instantHD advanced) with occasional, seemingly random flash-frames – as the picture. what’s bizarre is that nothing changed in the workflow – and i’ve been using this filter since 2008 quite often. same thing happens on two workstations.

anyone see else see something similar this?

and then i tried cs4, which is the latest where instantHD advanced works. no flash-frames, but render times doubled. go figure!

a lot of times, if you reencode the file as uncompressed ie. png quicktime non-gop video, these problems go away. Only the latest Ae supports compressed video imports.

i guess i’ll try .png then.

but none of the source footage was GOP-compressed. in the instances where i’ve seen this, it’s been avid meridien 1:1 or jfif (, which i assume is motion jpeg) – going towards dnxHD.

You might try checking the memory and multiprocessing settings for your CS4. Perhaps you could cut down the render times?

played around quite a bit with those.

my “render farm” is an i5 / 6Gb RAM box. seems “render multiple frames simultaneously” slows it down. not quite sure what the ideal memory settings would be.
