I just got my copy of CS3 and i sat down to make a clip for a friend. I imported all the files (about 45 in all) and any time i try to set an in or out point for the files, my computer takes infuriatingly long to respond. I’m on a gateway laptop with windows vista home premium. I don’t have anything running in the background, premiere is the only program up and running. Whenever i try to do anything in it, it only takes like 12% of the cpu. is there a way to get this higher or to do something else to make it run faster? thanks

A laptop with only 512 MB RAM and one hard drive can make editing very frustrating if not impossible.

indeed but it’s a laptop with about 2 gigs ram, a dual core processor and then an extra 250 gig hard drive connected via USB. i can’t figure out what the deal is

It will be a little more resource intensive then CS2.

Are you running Vista or XP?

A USB drive will really slow things down whether on CS2 or CS3. If the CPU is staying at low %, it could be that it really hasn’t much to process, and that would point to a slow drive. Mybook drives for example are especially slow. Try putting the footage on your laptop and see if things speed up.

BTW, tell us a litte more about the laptop. AMD or Intel, Brand / Model.

    Cheers,

    Vince

What kind of files, what format?
