My current production flow for 30 minute content is hard drive playback of (previously) exported avi files to Beta tape. I have been unable to export mov (Quicktime) files in this manner since Quicktime is unable (by Apple’s definition) to export files longer than about ten minutes to avi.

Will the mac version of Premiere (CS3) be able to export directly to avi, or might Adobe somehow get around Apple’s quicktime export to avi constraints?

If not, does Adobe intend for me to remain on the PC, if I need 30 minute or longer export to avi format?

I know the COW has a close connection to Adobe (one of its key sponsors), so I hope that even if no-one knows the answer outright, perhaps someone can wrangle the answer from Adobe.

    Thanks!

    Ron,

You might want to ask over in the Adobe Labs Premiere Pro CS3 forum. The moderators there are in direct contact with the Adobe Engineers.

What is the codec of the AVIs?

Mac plays back DV AVIs, but the TC doesn’t read (cross platform re-cap won’t work) however, a QT DV project can be brought over to PC and either relinked and run with the QT media, or you can actually recap AVI with the right procedure.

If you are planning on editing QT on Mac and exporting AVI from the Mac, I don’t have a definitive answer….haven’t tried it.

    News updade…

I poked my head into several (electronic) doors at Adobe trying to get an answer. The most difinitive answer I got from them was that – are you ready?

“CS3 for the Mac is still Beta and so has no official support at this time. We won’t be able to provide you with answers until Premiere CS3 for the Mac becomes an actual product. You can try again with your question at that time.”

I just hope it’s not too late at that point. If the product doesn’t meet the needs of the people who Adobe wants to buy the product, then who, I wonder, will stand in line to give them money?

While Premiere has gotten better in the fifteen or twenty years I’ve been using it, still, it isn’t anywhere near what Photoshop and AfterEffects have become. I wish Adobe the best, I just hope this isn’t it.
