  • CS3 editing tools gone missing (except for the pen tool)

    Hi,
    In the Tools panel I have only got the Pen tool. Yesterday there were all the other tools that you need for editing. Today they’re gone! I have done all the obvious things, tried the Window/Workspace/Reset Current Workspace… menu item, restarted PPro and then rebooted the whole PC. None of those helped. Next step I guess is to try uninstalling and reinstalling but I wanted to ask for advice first in case I’d missed something obvious (though I’m guessing there isn’t a hide-tools-to-make-the-editor-go-crazy option hidden somewhere I don’t know about). In the great tradition of all video editing catastrophes this had to happen on a Saturday evening (in NZ) when I have to produce a finished School Musical production DVD fo Monday! That’s just the law…

    All of the tools have a keyboard shortcut;
    Select tool = v
    Track Select tool= a
    Rate stretch tool = x
    razor tool = c
    I use the Trim window instead of rolling and ripple edit tools.

    Thanks Mike. I’ll start using those, quicker by far too.

    Actually I did manage to get the tools to reappear by undocking the panel and reshaping it a few times. Bizarre really.

    Does the trim window also work the same way as the rolling edit tool for multicam timelines?

    The trim window works in 2 modes;
    Click and drag in the center of one window produces ripple edits.
    Click and drag at the divide of the windows produces rolling edits.

    I have the same problem. I have reintalled but after a few restarts of premiere nothing but the pen tool. The build is up to date with all the downlaods from adobe? Shortcuts work fine.

    Did you ever find what caused the problem or the fix?

    I’m joining this thread late, but I run CS4 and have exactly that problem. The exact cause eludes me, but I think it’s memory-related.
    Here’s what I did:
    1. Opened a very small project (the big one I was working on may have contributed)
    2. Used the keyboard shortcuts and verified all tools working
    3. Undocked and resized the tool panel
    4. Tool icons then reappeared.
