Here are the problems I’ve been experiencing in Premiere CS3. 1. On Thursday (5/8) I opened an existing project that had last been edited the previous week (5/2) and made revisions, shot changes, re-rendering graphics and transitions, etc. Then I rendered everything, saved [using Save As] a version of the project with that days date and closed Premiere. The next day (5/9) when I opened that project and began more revisions, I noticed that there was a lot of stuff unrendered and that one of my Cross Dissolves was playing as a cut. So I rendered the timeline and played that section again. The Dissolve still played as a cut. I deleted the transition and dropped on a new one then renered. Played back fine, but when it played through the next dissolve that one showed as a cut also, as did the next 2 or 3. I found that fixing one of them seemed to repair the next few in a row. Then I saved and closed Premiere then relaunched. Same thing happened; the rendered clips were unrendered and the dissolve transitions played as cuts.

I then selected a 1-minute section with about 5 dissolves in it and copy/ pasted it onto a new blank timeline, rendered, saved and closed Premiere. I even rebooted the computer this time to be sure. Upon relaunching Premiere, the new timeline was still rendered and all of the dissolves played just fine (WooHoo!!) I then copy/pasted the entire 1-hour timeline into this new timeline then rendered, saved and closed Premiere. You can probably guess what happened next. I launched Premiere and (POOF!) nothing was rendered and after rendering them the dissolves played back as cuts.

Also, I opened the older version of the project from 5/2 and it is now experiencing the same problems. We took the project to another Premiere system and launched it there. It opened with the parts unrendered there also, however, when you moved across the transitions they played as dissolves like they were supposed to. We rendered and saved then closed and re-opened Premiere. Again the saves did not hold and it opened with the timeline unrendered again. Premiere doesn’t seem to be holding any new saves. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have the exact same problem. I’m running Premiere Pro CS3 on a 64 bit system…don’t know if that makes a difference. The only thing different is that the clips that have dissolves(that are playinh as cuts) are showing that the clip itself is “offline”, but it’s not. I can play all the clips in the bin, but on the timeline they are offline. If I replace the dissolves Premiere will see the “offline” clip and the dissolve will play correctly. This is greatly increasing my edit time. Can anyone help!?!?!

    Hi Dorian,

Since a week I am experiencing the same problems as you pictured in your story of May 13, 2008.

I was wondering if you found the solution to the problem.
I would appreciate your help in solving this problem.

    Best regards,

    Hello Michael,

Honestly since it was almost 2 years ago I can’t remember 100% what I did to remedy it. However, I get the feeling that it involved uninstalling and reinstalling Premiere. With an unexplained problem like that I’m almost certain that is what I would have done to alleviate it. Hope this helps.
