I am cleaning up our logo library running a script to resave in CS .ai format (Compression and PDF compatible are enabled). Many of the logos are larger(475k) than the should be and a solution seems to be to export to Illustrator legacy version 8(724k), close the file, open the .ai8 version and resave to .aiCS (178k).

Creating a new blank file in CS with no artwork here are my results
    save as CS (389K)
    export to legacy 8 (703K)
    Save as to .aiCS (207k)
delete unused swatches & brushes save as .aiCS(203K)
    export to legacy 8 (45K)

What is going on, and why is illustrator so wasteful on space. Need to keep “save as pdf compatible” on for InDesign, and the new CS format gives us previews in the windows explorer. I have over 25,000 logos to cleanup and file size will become an issue nto allowing me to fit this on one DVD to redistribute to our other offices.

Does anyone have any suggestions, so I can modify my action script.
