Please help me make HDV export to tape work

    Windows 7/Prem Pro CS 5.5.2 & a I7-2600 (2nd gen) processor/No CUDA

Can’t get the greyed out area to go black and access this function no matter what’s tried.

    Camcorder is a Canon A1s

    1) Turned auto save off
    2) Disabled all unessential processes including the internet and all security apps.
    3) Tried exporting straight from the project timeline and also as a single file.
    4) A1s is connected properly to the PC because HDV Split recognizes the cam just fine for importing.
    5) Software processing engine only/No CUDA.
    6) Device control is HDV/DV.
    7) Followed all online advice and how to’s on the subject that I could find.
    8) Selected the timeline. Work task bar covers the project 100%. Stem to stern.

Am I just unlucky or what?

Please me rescue the situation as I want to archive to tape.

Is there a known conflict with the A1s and CS 5.5.2?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Bruce,

Make sure the tape has some timecode on it – record a few minutes of black, then roll back into it so the PTT starts in the timecoded area.

Also, in camera menu, you may be able to “force” the VTR to “HDV” rather than leaving it on AUTO.

Note that Premiere first renders out your content, and only fires up the camera after that step is completed.

    Hi Jeff,

Been awhile since we’ve been in contact.

Thanks for your suggestions and hope all is well.

I’m having identical situation I am able to capture from my device without issue but when I try to export it fails.

Under Sequence Settings > Playback Settings > Export –

    I only have 2 options: None, DV:25 720 x 576i or Monitor 2 60 1920 x 1080p.

    I’ve chosen D; 25 720 x 576i.

The ‘disable video output when in the background’ by default was checked.

Under File > Export > Tape, a dialog box pops up ‘Export to HDV’ the status is ready and the Current Timecode: 00;00;00;00. It has a Render and Record button as well as a Done button.

Based on tutorials I’ve seen on the web, after I select Export > Tape the Device Control option SHOULD of popped up instead which would allow me to select the beginning and end of my timecode but this feature is not appearing.

So I push Render and Record button and it begins “Transcoding to HDV’ which takes some times but half way through it says recording but a few seconds later my tape stops with “Check the HDV/DV unput” but PP still indicates it’s recording. Any advice much appreciated. I’m at the end of a deadline and it has to be submitted in mini-DV

BTW – My sequence is fully rendered (all green line on top) and I’m running Windows 7, 64-bit, 8GB RAM, TB HD, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650. I use my old camera Canon Vixia HV30 which as I mentioned the capture function works flawlessly. I’m going to try my Canon XH A1 next but I don’t that’s going t make a difference
