    Mac 10.6.8
    2 x 3.2Ghz Quad core intel xeon
    8 gig mem
    ATI Radeon HD 5770

When I RAM preview or Render in CS 5.5 everything on my computer becomes geriatric. Windows in Safari wont scroll, youtubes stutter, I can’t even highlight text smoothly.
This doesn’t happen in CS 4.
Does anyone have some insight as to why this is happening or how to fix it.
multiprocessing is turned off and I’ve allocated 3 gigs of ram to other apps.

Try installing Raging Menace’s Menu Meters [link] and watching your CPU usage, memory usage, and paging activity.

What happens with these three measurements as you render?

Adobe cs5.5 is a powerful application that uses multiprocessor commandos u need a heavy equipment to move it and when ur doing rendering on adobe cs5.5 u need to be aware that using other applications on the rendering process it will slow down anything that u try to do with other applications, i have a I7 950 3.1GHZ OVERCLOCKED to 3.2 with 12GB of ram an 7 teras od HD and 2 GTX 470 nvidia video cards and i still have to leave it alone when is doing rendering it takes a lot of video cards as processor task
