    Hello,
When getting a new MacPro, do you have to first instal your current FC Studio DVDs and upgrade through the Mac’s upgrade menu, or do you have to first buy your upgrade and instal only the new version?
It just puzzles me and i’d wish to start working as soon the new machine arrives.
    Whats your experience?

    Correct,
Except the new binary version is not an upgrade, it’s a new version.

    Cheers

    Hi
You need the FCS 5.1 install DVDs (only). So for v5 (or v4.5 etc) you have to have exchanged your old DVDs.
With an upgrade from v5 you use the same serial number.
You get a new serial number with v4.5 or other older upgrades.

I just did this recently (however there have been several crazy projects since then so my memory is a bit fuzzy). Since I only have the U Binary disc (having sent in the previous version) I just intalled them and was prompted for my original version’s S#. I ran into no problems on the install.

    Good Luck

a good practice also is to create .dmgs of the install discs onto a firewire drive for backup. but if you use these .dmgs for install it is much faster you can mount them all and it will run through everything in one shot.
