    Hi All
we added a 3rd system that needs to be compatible with our others running 5.1.2. I got a retro-version of 5.0.4 and need the crossgrade to 5.1.2 that was out till mid-2006. Thought I’d check here before calling apple and grovelling. I read all the very old posts about this, but I’m still asking, and this is not a 5.1.2 to 5.1.4 update. Thanks

There is no active upgrade to 5.1 anything. This was a $50 upgrade that is no longer available.

We have multiple copies of this upgrade from 10/2006 and it is not ser# specific. Yeah! Installed and now I’m up to 5.1 on this particular system, but I need it to be 5.1.2 that I cannot find.

Question is: are there ANY issues with updating to 5.1.4? We’re in the final 45-60 days of a 9 month project and cannot afford any downtime or failure on what we already have completed. Thoughts?

    Thanks!

The only way to be secure is to do a Carbon Copy clone (I use Super Duper) to another hard drive. Then do updates. If there is a problem all you need to do is to pick in the clone HD and you are back to where you started. Make sure you backup your project files also. You should do this anyway.

5.1.4 run fine for me way back when. Not sure where you can get the upgrade. This is one thing that annoys me about Apple most companies have back generations of their updates on the web.

    Hi
I had no issues – FCP, 5.1.2 dates from Sept.2006, FCP 5.1.4 came in Feb. 2007, after the shortlived 5.1.3 (which broke a lot of things) and for me has been completely stable – as good as FCP 4.5.

Whilst I still use 5.1.4 I’ve updated the version of Tiger to 10.4.11, and added (some of) the ProAppsSupport updates as well – the ones that date from that era.

But I’ve stuck with QuickTime 7.1.6, because I’ve got another Mac to run the iLife goodies etc that need a later QT version.

SoftwareUpdate still offers the FCP 5.1.4 upgrade if you run it on a Mac with an earlier version of FCP 5.1
