Posted by Chicbearsfan on June 4, 2007 at 2:39 pmI am a new student to Vegas and For extra credit my teacher wants me learn how to use a forum. So here is what my question is.
What is a crossfade?
What are the two different methods to create a crossfade.Dynamicintrovert2 replied 18 years, 11 months ago 6 Members · 5 Replies -

June 4, 2007 at 2:51 pmA crossfade is another word for a dissolve. The transition consists of one clip gradually becoming more and more transparent, revealing the next clip. It is generally used to denote a change in time or place, but can also be used simply for a softer, more romantic feel.
In Vegas, the easiest way to create a crossfade is to simply overlap two video clips in the same video track. The crossfade is created automatically.
Another way to do it is to put two clips in two different video tracks, with their ends overlapping. Insert a transparency envelope on the upper clip. In the overlap area, insert a node point where the outgoing clip ends. Grab the end of the transparency rubber band and drag it down to zero at the start of the incoming clip.

June 4, 2007 at 2:56 pmA cross fade is where one image dissolves into the next, or overlaps with it, for transitioning purposes. To crossfade in Vegas you do it one of two ways. Put two clips on the timeline. Click and drag one clip so that it overlaps edges with the other. The more they overlap the longer/slower the crossfade. Or, on separate tracks by fading the end of the first down and the beginning of the one under it up at the same spot on the timeline.

Then your teacher should have said that the BEST way to learn to use a forum is to begin by using the search function. Forums are a great asset and can get many questions answered very quickly. Sometimes the same question gets asked many many times and a quick search can get you an answer much faster than waiting for someone to respond to a new identical question.
I’m not saying to not post a question, just that searching also has a place. But definitely feel free to always ask as well. Doug did a great job of answering your direct questions. Here’s a couple of old posts that came up via a search.

June 4, 2007 at 9:21 pmI’m pretty sure I just graduated from this program. Really, it’s impressive. This guy is new though. He doesn’t care if you know how to Search, just that you post the question, get a response and send him the link. The result, of course, is 20 of the same questions posted across a few boards. And much annoyance on our part.
Then he doesn’t bother to teach it, which results in a few students showing up at my place to learn things like volume envelopes and, of course, cross fades.
Yeah, we’re thrilled.
