Cross post from Blackmagic Forum – Hot signal to broadcast monitor???
After doing some recabling, my componenet out from my BM Extreme card directly into my broadcast monitor is displaying a hot signal similar to what you might expect to see out of a VCR when the 75ohm terminator is in the wrong position. Problem is, the monitor has no 75ohm terminator switch. I have tried everything I can think of, even reinstalling BM dirvers etc, but I’m still getting this hot signal, only on the broadcast monitor BTW, not the FCP viewers. Any ideas???

Sounds like you have no reference to your card and it’s looking for reference.

Make SURE on the back of your monitor that you are feeding the cables into the INPUTS and not the outputs (if there ARE outputs).
Certain monitors have “automatic” teremination (75 ohm) that drops out, if you have cables connected to the bridging OUTPUTS.

My bad. I igured it out. It was in fact the 75ohm terminator on the VCR. I thought the VCR was no longer patched, but indeed I was still feeding it from FCP. So, it was in the loop and thus required termination.

Yes, termination (lack-of, or “double”) can wreak havoc on a video “loop”.
