    Hi.
I need to make a mpeg2 file from an avi that can be playable on both pcs and macs. I’ve been using QuEnc and it all looks fine on my pc, but the person that is receiving the video tells me that the mpeg is not playable on his mac but that he has a lot of other mpeg2 files that he can play without any problem. Any tip or suggestions on how to solve this?

    Thanks in advance.

There is no reason why the output of QuEnc wouldn’t play on a Mac, unless you used some ‘funky’ settings or something similar.

Can you play the file on a PC that doesn’t have ffmpeg or QuEnc installed?

today I got my hands on a mac installed the mpeg2 codecs and made several experiments with mpegs made by me and some mpegs I got on the web. The only mpeg that run flawlessly was the one that I created on the first place (the one that wasn’t supposed to work :P). To avoid further troubles we decided for a completely different solution, we made a mini flash application for windows and mac, that plays an flv.

    Anyway, thanks for your response.

Bear in mind that Macs don’t ship out of the box with MPEG-2 playback support. The MPEG-2 component is normally only installed along with Final Cut Pro Studio.
