Cross-fading tracks which are chroma-keyed.

I have an issue when cross-fading between two events which have been chroma-keyed.
I use a solid-black with a fade to fade of a chroma-keyed track and the track below it – otherwise the fade does not ‘look right’ – i.e. the chroma-keyed track becomes transparent as it fades and the lower track fades through.
I want to cross-fade between the two keyed clips, but when I overlap them the overlap interferes with the chroma-key, and so you see some of the green-screen.
The problem with using solid-blacks and then fading them is that it blocks everything below it out, loosing any cross-fade.
The only thing I can think of at this stage is to render them out as separate tracks chroma-keyed and then reimport them, but that seems like a very long-winded way around..
Any suggestions appreciated.

I’m not seeing this behavior. Inherently ChromaKey uses two tracks. Are you sure that you are overlapping both tracks with other media? In other words, you should be cross fading 4 events, 2 on each track (i.e., the keyed clip and the background x2).
I just chroma keyed a clip using BCC Chroma Key and I created a transition with another chroma keyed clip and the transition was fine. Then I created a transition with some generated media on two tracks and again the transition was fine. I did not see the green screen on either transition.

Thanks for the reply. I did make sure I was cross-fading both sets of tracks. It is a bit difficult to describe, so I give below a picture which shows the chroma-key ‘interference’
I have put the cursor directly in the middle of the cross-fade. You can see the green-screen of the image I am fading up appearing over the clip I am fading out.
I am using BCC 9 Chroma-studio added as a 2:1 composite.

Re-reading your reply I saw the comment ‘ I created a transition with another chroma keyed clip’.
Is this something different to just dragging the start of the second event over the end of the first event to create a cross-fade, or should I be doing something more ‘formal’?

I believe that might be your problem. 2:1 composite affects the entire track and thus all of the clips on the track. I know you probably did this to use light wrap but try it as an FX on the event and I believe the problem will go away.

No, I inaccurately used the term “transition” but I really only created a cross-fade like you did. I think the 2:1 composite is what’s causing your problem.

I never thought to try that – thank you- that looks like it did the trick.
The only issue I have is the presets – presets saved in 2:1 do not show up when you add the effect to the event – what a pain!!
The lighting wasn’t that great – so there had been a lot of adjustments made to many parameters to get a good key
*EDIT* – strike that – presets saved within the Vegas preset option do not show up – BCC presets do – you can save and load them – all working now.

I’m glad that worked and as you figured out, if you save the preset from with BCC it will always be available regardless of how you apply it.
