Had a student creating cross dissolve transitions in fcp4.5………..
In same work session, in same sequence, different clips
the default 1 second duration would sometimes be correct when dragged and dropped (software gives that
    duration in effects info…
but, in the next breath, a drag and drop of same effect on different clip comes in as 1 frame.

The two clips are both long enough for a 1 second cross-dissolve…

any know glitches with this?……it’s intermittent…….

It’s not the clip itself that needs to be long enough

You say the clips are “long enough” for the total dissolve length, but if a dissolve is “drag and dropped” it can sometimes be seen as a START-at-cut, END-at-cut, or CENTERED-on-cut effect.

If BOTH the incoming AND/OR outgoing clips do not EACH have enough “handle” in overlaping video, and the dissolve “dropped on” so that it “tries” to use ALL the handle frames from either side of the cut, that can be the problem.

To check, double-click the errant effect into the Viewer window and change its start-point.
